Huddersfield Examiner - Snooker: ‘Sixy’ snooker hits Huddersfield
|
On Saturday 13th February 2010 Top Spot Snooker Club will be holding Huddersfield's first ever 6 Red Snooker Competition. The brand new 6 Red format is great for one day events as the games typically last between 5 and 15 minutes a frame and therefore helps to cut down on long exhausting ten hour tournaments. We are anticipating one hour per round to be the absolute maximum and the final will no doubt be underway before 3 p.m. ! In December 2009 the Six Red World Championship was held in Killarney, Scotland, when world No 47 Mark Davis beat Mark Williams 6 - 3 to be crowned world champion. Six Red Snooker will be a huge benefit to revitalising a genuine interest in snooker. It gives newer players the opportunity to try the game without being bogged down in full length frames, which quite often take too much out of new players. It is a fast and exciting game which is much more fun for new players, who can maximise the number of frames they play per hour. We have 20 / 20 cricket which has proved a great success and now Six Red Snooker will be the next big thing. The tournament will be open to just 32 players, with all the entrance fees (£5 per head) being paid out in prize money. It will also be handicapped, with a conversion from the full handicap allowed as per the Huddersfield Open League handbook. There will be £65 on offer for the winner, £35 for the runner-up, £15 for the losing semi-finalists and £7.50 for the losing quarter-finalists.
